We're a community, and we truly believe we can make a change and help closing the gender gap in technology!
Hello!
I’m about to say some words about me, hope you don’t get annoyed.
I am Albina, 16 years old and a tech-lover.
At the age of 12, I built my first Scratch game. It felt pretty cool. With 13, I started my first HTML course, thanks to my sister. After that I learnt some CSS too and practiced quite a lot. Then with 14 I started with JavaScript. That’s when I built my very first website. I’ve been coding quite a lot ever since. With 15 I learnt some Python, but I’m more focused on C++. During all the years I’ve been coding, I was part of so many competitions, hackathons, webinars, meetups. Challenging myself helped me a lot, to motivate myself and to keep going.
What’s my why? I started because I loved it. And then, it felt great to code, I searched the internet, and it seemed like the salary is much higher. I couldn’t believe that one day I’d spend 8 hours working on my passion. So coding switched really fast from hobby to a dream and from a dream to a goal. I’m getting better day by day, and that’s what keeps me motivated.
All of this, hasn’t been easy for me. It’s not easy even now. Coding for hours every day, sometimes until 2AM, sometimes until 5AM isn’t what you think of when I say “I’m working on my passion”, right? Well, looks like a kid can do this. I truly believe there are NO agre or gender requirements when it comes todoing the things you love. You can work on your passion whenever you want, may you be 16 or 60, it doesn’t matter. Your hard work matters, your dedication matters!
Programming isn’t the only thing I do during some usual 24 hours. Sport has been my best friend since the age of 14. I’ve been doing home workouts for 6-7 times a week, and the results are incredible. And even here, I didn’t have to start with 1 hour a day. I started with 20 minutes, which were increased step by step until I achieved 60 minutes 2 years later. I’ve been passionate about reading since the age of 8. Escaping this world for just some minutes a day helps me keep a clear mind and really relaxed. And since an eternity, I’ve been watching TV. Yep there’s time for movies too, because it’s thanks to them that I now know english, german and french! None of them is my mother language, so hooray!
What I want to say is: EVERYTHING TAKES ITS TIME. This doesn’t mean you have to be patient! Work hard, where’s that momentum?! You have to be patient only and only for the results. Nothing worth having comes that easy!
Have a great day and I wish you all the best!
Work hard, dream big, start now!
Challenge your life!
